About Team Games

Make your next party famous!

Bridge players have the best parties, enjoying their favorite pastime among friends, combined with great food and drink. Of all the ways to play duplicate bridge, team games are the most fun. These packages provided by Richard will make your party the talk of the town.

How To Prepare

You will need a set of duplicate boards numbered 1-32. The brand I recommend is “Imperial Plus” in a soft color such as light blue or gray. You will also need cards to fill the boards, and you can’t beat the “ACBL standard” decks with six different back colors to deter mixups when shuffling. Order three dozen (36) to have extras in case needed.

Print Table Markers and fasten them at the center of each table with cellophane tape. Orient the directions (NESW) the same way for each table, or as nearly so as feasible. Tables should be spread apart, not adjacent to one another, ideally in different rooms.

Print a variety of Convention Cards so casual partnerships will have something simple to choose from in deciding their system.

Be sure to have plenty of pencils — good quality, not the cheap stub variety — for players to modify convention cards and keep score.

Select a movement that is appropriate for the number of players, and print out its entire package. Specific instructions for each movement are contained in the package.

MovementNumber of Players
Two Teams of Four8 to 12
Three Teams of Four12 to 18
Four Teams of Four16 to 24
Two Teams of Six12 to 18

The first number is the absolute minimum. Anything above that is accommodated by adding a fifth or sixth member to a team of four, or up to nine members on a team of six. Teams then decide their lineups for each stanza or round, i.e., who will play and who will sit out. Sit-outs are usually welcome during parties to partake in the food and drink. Players sitting out may kibitz any table at which their team is playing.

Plan it now and do it soon! Everyone will have a great time.
